Okay, so 5 summer’s ago I was in a motorcycle accident where the other party was 100% at fault which resulted in a fractured femur and severe internal bruising. I now have a rod and 3 pins in my right leg. I hired a personal injury lawyer immediately who handled EVRYTHING. The case took a very long time to settle (almost 2 years), but eventually I got the money, and the lawyer took 1/3. Supposedly everything was taken care of, including all medical bills which the lawyer said he had negotiated down and took care of. Now it’s been quite some time (about 3 years) and last week I received a very unexpected lein for ,000 in medical bills. I nearly had a dam heart attack!!! I contacted the lawyer and he said I don’t know whats going on, he said the hospital said I was all set and now this. He said something about him having to compensate me for this amount because it was supposed to be taken care of under signed contract…? He really confused the heck out of me and I’m actually still waiting for an update from him. I’m just looking for some feedback on this from someone who knows what they’re talking about. Who’s responsible for payment and if he does have to compensate me does it have to be paid towards lein. This has been extremely frustrating, do I get to scream malpractice!?
If I remember right, it did say that on the lein that the accused party responsible is that of the insurance company of the woman who hit me. But from what I know I already signed a contract with them that I cannot seek out any more compensation from them.
