A 15-year-old Iraqi girl in Mahmoudiya lives near a US checkpoint and has to regularly pass through the checkpoint to go about her daily business. Four US troops notice her, and decide to rape her. So one day, they get drunk, go to her home, murder her parents, murder her 7-year-old sister, and then brutally gang-rape her before shooting her several times in the head and burning her body. I so badly do not want this story to be true, but I know that it probably is. I also know that atrocities like this are committed by Iraqi insurgents, but they are criminals, not our representatives in a foreign country that we are supposed to be helping. For God’s sake, what is happening to us? We have to assume that there are probably other cases of US soldiers raping and murdering Iraqi civilians which have not yet been exposed. Why are some US troops doing these things?
